New England Autumn
Autumn in New England is hard to beat, lasting from late September to early November. You can use online leaf trackers to check color conditions by state. Generally, northern and higher areas change first, and trees that change early are often stressed by factors like drought, insects, or disease.
Some of my favorite autumn photos are from canoe trips, capturing the soft reflections of colorful leaves on the water. If you're paddling with expensive camera gear, I suggest using a waterproof Pelican case and keeping the equipment stored safely in the canoe when not in use.
The end of fall foliage always feels a bit sad to me. Once the leaves are gone and snow hasn't arrived yet, I have to get more creative with my photography. I try to take plenty of photos during fall to have enough until the snow comes.
